AMSTERDAM, June 03, 2026 Skytree, a leader in modular onsite Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology, and Lingezegen Energy, a regional Dutch energy company serving greenhouses, will provide fossil-free CO₂ supply to a vital greenhouse cluster in the Netherlands, guaranteeing availability of a critical resource for optimal crop growth. Validated by over two years of operational lab data, the commercial Skytree Stratus system features proprietary moving-bed technology that decouples adsorption and desorption, reducing electricity consumption to as low as 0.9 MWh per ton of CO₂ by integrating with low-grade heat: offering a bankable and scalable solution to onsite carbon capture and sustainable CO₂ supply chains.
A strategic alliance for sustainable growth
The Skytree Stratus system at Lingezegen Energy will be deployed in 2026 and initially capture 900 tonnes of atmospheric CO₂ per year. In 2027 the site will be extended to capture 7,200 tonnes of atmospheric CO₂ per year. This supply will serve 10 greenhouses across 80 hectares, integrated directly into Lingezegen Energy’s renewable infrastructure, including a floating solar park and thermal storage.
CO₂ enrichment is vital for maximizing crop yields and quality. As traditional industrial sources of CO₂ become increasingly unavailable, volatile and expensive, this collaboration establishes a decentralized supply chain that delivers CO₂ directly at the point of use. By employing Skytree’s DAC technology, the cluster can ensure the CO₂ required for optimal crop growth while simultaneously meeting strict decarbonization targets.
“Our partnership with Lingezegen Energy is a pivotal moment for the Dutch horticultural sector as it proves that circular, atmospheric CO₂ is no longer a concept for the future, but a financially viable, scalable solution available today to protect the long-term competitiveness of Dutch greenhouses. By decoupling CO₂ supply from fossil fuel combustion, we help solve the CO₂ crisis for the Dutch greenhouse sector and help growers reduce their carbon footprint.”
—Rob van Straten (CEO of Skytree)
“The future of Dutch greenhouse horticulture does not lie in clinging to fossil fuels, but in embracing innovation. Capturing CO₂ from ambient air is not a luxury, it is the key to a sustainable and thriving sector.”
—Berno Schouten (CEO of Lingezegen Energy)
Skytree Stratus: Engineered for industrial performance
This milestone marks Skytree’s transition from an R&D and field trials focused organization to a commercial manufacturer, delivering onsite solutions designed to provide a cost-competitive and resilient supply of atmospheric CO₂ for businesses that need a reliable supply at any scale. Skytree Stratus is specifically designed for those facing high liquid CO₂ prices, frequent supply shortages, or increasing regulatory pressure to decarbonize, such as greenhouse operators, e-fuel producers or Food & Beverage companies using CO₂ to carbonate drinks or package food.
With this product launch, Skytree demonstrates operational system resilience:
Advanced thermal integration: The system is optimized to utilize heat (≥80°C) for 80% of the heating load. This integration reduces electricity consumption to as low as 1.0 MWh per ton, making it one of the most cost effective solutions on the market.
Proprietary AI-powered process control: To ensure a stable supply of CO₂, Skytree Stratus uses advanced proprietary software to monitor ambient air conditions in real-time. This allows the system to maintain a unique consistent output within a +/- 5% seasonal variance, even in temperatures ranging from -35°C to 50°C.
Modular architecture: Serial manufacturing of standardized modules leverages economies of scale to reduce hardware cost. Single system capture capacity starts at 2.5 tonnes of CO₂ per day and can be configured into parks of any size, allowing customers to choose the right capacity for their needs and scale later. Additionally, modular maintenance prevents full-plant shutdowns, while field upgradability allows for the seamless integration of advanced sorbents to further reduce capture costs over time.
"We solved the fundamental energy penalty of Direct Air Capture by rethinking the architecture. By moving the sorbent between cold and hot chambers, we ensure we are only heating the material that captures the CO₂, not the steel machine itself. This allows us to utilize low-grade heat and reduce electricity consumption to as low as 0.9 MWh per ton: a figure that finally makes onsite CO₂ capture financially viable for many customers."
