AMSTERDAM, 17 September 2026 — Skytree, the Amsterdam-based Direct Air Capture (DAC) company today announced that Invest International has signed a €1 million development loan for the Skytree’s Skypark project in Iceland. This project extends the model established with the first Skypark in the Netherlands, a joint venture with Lingezegen Energy announced on 3 June 2026, and is part of a wider pipeline of similar Skypark projects Skytree is developing internationally.
The loan finances the project development phase: engineering, permitting, site preparation studies and the conversion of offtake letters of intent into binding contracts. This loan aligns with its mission to promote innovative climate technologies abroad. Additionally, the project helps advance global carbon management goals, contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and strengthens the long-term earning capacity of the Netherlands

Greenhouse growers, food and beverage producers, dry ice and food packaging companies depend on a reliable supply of pure CO₂. Currently, this CO₂ is predominantly a by-product of ammonia production, oil refineries, and various industrial processes. However, obtaining this supply is becoming increasingly difficult.
Three main factors are contributing to this tightening supply:
1. Industrial emitters are increasingly directing their CO₂ to permanent underground storage rather than selling it to merchant users.
2. Transportation costs are rising, as CO₂ is often transported over long distances by road and sea.
3. Geopolitical tensions and energy market volatility have affected industrial production and logistics chains, contributing to fluctuations in CO₂ availability and pricing.
Skypark is Skytree’s regional Direct Air Capture hub model. Each Skypark is set up as a dedicated project company, or special purpose vehicle (SPV), that brings together the three core partners needed to build and run a regional CO₂ supply hub: a site and energy partner, capital providers, and local CO₂ offtakers.
Site and energy partners: provide the land and renewable power and heat that the DAC process runs on, and can participate as equity partners in the SPV alongside Skytree.
Capital providers: including local financial institutions, banks and equity investors which finance the SPVs construction and operations in return for the predictable long-term returns generated by fixed-price offtake contracts.
Offtakers: the merchant CO₂ market: greenhouse growers, food and beverage producers, and other regional CO₂ users. They buy CO2 from the Skypark exactly as they do today, under a long term contract, with no equipment to purchase, host, or operate. In return they get a reliable, local, fossil-free supply at a stable cost.
The new Skypark project, located in Iceland will use the country’s geothermal energy to supply both renewable electricity and heat for Skytree’s Direct Air Capture technology, pairing a market that currently imports most of its CO₂ supply with an energy source uniquely suited to producing it locally instead.
Development work for the project is expected to continue through 2026, followed by site preparation. Skytree's Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology is scheduled for installation in 2028, marking the year when commercial operations are anticipated to begin.
"The real story here isn’t one project– it's that the model travels. Wherever we find clustered industrial demand for CO₂, cost-effective renewable energy, and customers tired of price spikes and supply interruptions, we can build a Skypark. We have a pipeline of these projects across the globe, and each one follows the same playbook: long-term offtake contracts, stable pricing, and CO₂ that's produced locally instead of shipped in.

Invest International is a Dutch financing institution focused on making a positive impact. It supports Dutch and Dutch-linked companies in developing international solutions for global challenges. The organization targets key transition sectors, including energy, climate, water, and agrifood. Invest International typically provides early-stage capital when commercial financing is unavailable, addressing a common obstacle for pioneering infrastructure projects.
"Dutch companies have a great deal to offer where energy, food security and climate meet, and this project sits precisely at that intersection. Skytree combines Dutch innovation with a business model that can be replicated internationally. By supporting this development phase, we help unlock opportunities for Dutch climate technology in global markets while contributing to more resilient and sustainable CO₂ supply chains.”
—Tim Zijderveld (Senior Investment Manager, Invest International)
"Working with Invest International has been a genuinely constructive process. They took the time to understand a project structure that is new: a DAC hub financed as infrastructure rather than as technology and they asked the right questions. That made the documentation better and the project stronger. We are glad to have them alongside us as we take this project into development."

About Skytree
Skytree engineers the CO₂ transition by developing Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology that captures CO₂ from the air and repurposes it for good: whether carbon is reused across different industries or stored permanently.
With over a decade of innovation rooted in the European Space Agency (ESA), Skytree's patented DAC technology transforms atmospheric CO₂ into a valuable resource: powering applications like renewable fuels and chemicals, greenhouses, beverage carbonation, food packaging and water treatment.
Skytree’s modular DAC machines and unique Skypark concept allow companies to deploy in any climate, at scale - offering a bankable path to CO₂ supply security and price stability, and accelerating the transition to a circular CO₂ economy.
About Invest International
Invest International is a joint venture of the Dutch State (51%) and development bank FMO (49%). It finances Dutch and Dutch-linked businesses and partner governments in foreign markets, with a focus on agrifood, water and infrastructure, healthcare, sustainable manufacturing, and renewable energy and climate.

Important update
Skytree has spent 12 years on a problem most people don't know exists.
Greenhouses need CO₂ to grow food. Not a nice-to-have - it’s an input, like water or light. In the Netherlands and beyond, that supply is disappearing.
We built the technology to replace it: CO₂ captured from the ambient air.
Our round is now open to everyone. The campaign is live on Republic Europe.
